Selection process
- 1Merit-Based Selection: Candidates will be shortlisted strictly on the basis of academic merit and order of preference of Unit–Department–Trade exercised in their application.
- 2Merit Calculation (General Trades): Average of percentage of marks obtained in Matriculation (min. 50% aggregate) + ITI marks in the relevant trade.
- 3Merit Calculation (Medical Lab Technician – Pathology/Radiology): Average of percentage of marks in Matriculation (min. 50%) + 12th Science (Physics, Chemistry & Biology).
- 4Tie-Breaking: In case of equal marks, the older candidate ranks higher. If date of birth is also the same, the candidate who passed matriculation earlier is considered first.
- 5Shortlisting for Document Verification (DV): Candidates will be called for DV to the extent of 1.5 times the notified vacancies, unit-wise, trade-wise, and community-wise.
- 6Document Verification: Conducted by the respective Division/Workshop/Unit. Original testimonials and a medical certificate must be produced.
- 7Medical Fitness: Candidates must submit a medical certificate signed by a Government authorized Doctor (Gazetted), not below the rank of Asst. Surgeon of Central/State Hospital, at the time of document verification.
- 8Final Allotment: A candidate shall be considered for only one combination of Unit-Department-Trade based on merit and preference. Once selected against a higher preference, all lower preferences are automatically cancelled.

How to apply

- Navigate to: General Info → Departments → Personnel → Act Apprentice Notification
- Register yourself and then log in to the portal.
- Fill in the ONLINE application form carefully, indicating Units of choice in order of preference.
- Upload all mandatory documents: Mark sheet & Pass Certificate of Matriculation (Class X), ITI Provisional Certificate/NTC issued by NCVT/SCVT, Final ITI mark sheet, and other applicable certificates (caste, disability, EWS, etc.).
- Pay the non-refundable application fee of ₹100/- online through the payment gateway (SC/ST/PwBD/EBC/Women candidates are exempted).
- After successful payment, complete the remaining application process and download the application form.
- Take a printout of the submitted online application for future reference.
- Note: Only ONE application per candidate is allowed. Submission of more than one application will lead to disqualification.
Documents and additional conditions
Other Important Information: Total Slots: 6777 apprenticeship training slots across 8 units/divisions of Northeast Frontier Railway for 2025-2026 & 2026-2027. Training Period: Generally 1 year for most trades; 1 year 3 months for Medical Laboratory Technician (Pathology & Radiology); 6 months for Mechanic Mechanical Maintenance (Industrial Automation) and Mechanic Electrical Maintenance (Industrial Automation). Stipend: Minimum ₹9,600/- per month for NTC/STC holders (w.e.f. 11.09.2025). ₹10,560/- for 2nd year and ₹11,040/- for 3rd year where exemption is admissible. No Hostel: No hostel accommodation will be provided during training. No Employment Guarantee: Completion of apprenticeship does not confer any right to appointment in railway services. However, 20% of vacancies in erstwhile Gr. D (Level-1) posts shall give preference to Course Completed Act Apprentices with National Apprenticeship Certificates from NCVT. Age Relaxation: SC/ST: 5 years; OBC: 3 years; PwBD: 10 years; Ex-Servicemen: 10 additional years (extent of service) + 3 years (min. 6 months service at a stretch). Reservation: SC/ST/OBC (NCL): as per rules; EWS: 10%; PwBD: 4% (horizontal); Ex-Servicemen: 10% (horizontal). 50% Marks Relaxation: The minimum 50% aggregate marks in Matriculation is NOT applicable to SC/ST/PwBD candidates. Fee Exemption for EBC: Candidates with family income less than ₹50,000/- per annum are exempted from application fee (certificate issued on or after 01-04-2026 required). EWS Certificate: Must be issued on or after 01-04-2026. One Application Only: Candidates are allowed to submit only ONE application. Multiple applications will lead to disqualification. Canvassing: Canvassing in any form will disqualify the candidature. No TA/DA: No travelling allowance or daily allowance will be paid for document verification.
